The Formula Kite Class is a high performance hydrofoiling kiteboard racing class and has been selected to debut as the latest sailing discipline in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A friend lent me an old RRD kite. I pumped it up on the beach, walked out across the shallows, and hopped on a stap-less surfboard. Definitely out of control, but instantly addicted. A couple years later I traded an old pair of skis for a race foil setup and never turned back. The feeling as the board releases from the water and the drag disappears into silence is indescribable and beautiful.

Kite Racing is the most challenging sport that I have ever tried. There is so much to learn and perfect that the development is never ending. I feel my combination of technical skills, sail racing background, and fearlessness all contribute to my quick progress in the discipline.

22-25 kts upwind and 30-36 kts downwind across most wind speeds. 40.6 kts fastest so far.

I created Wyspa Technologies in 2018 and currently work on projects in naval architecture, 3D scanning, and composite engineering. In 2020 I helped start Inde Foil, a surf/freestyle foil design company, with fellow kite racers Cody Stansky and Kai Calder.

It’s definitely a challenge to find enough time to do both well. I try to split my time into distinct blocks of kite training and working to be as effective and efficient as possible. I have a converted van that I use as a mobile office when on the road for training.

I used to love watching “How it’s Made” growing up and started building longboard skateboards in high school. Eventually I felt that I had perfected the craft and moved on to sailboats as my main interest. I now build bars and boards for kite racing and have the skills to repair all my gear as needed.
